Scranton Man Charged in Connection with 4 Burglaries

You never want to make that one phone call from a police station and say "I just got arrested in Scranton. They are charging me with burglary."

According to Pennsylvania statutes, a person is guilty if he enters a building or occupied structure, with the purpose to commit a crime therein, unless the premises are at the time open to the public or the actor is licensed or privileged to enter. Burglary is a 2nd degree felony if it is committed at night or if in the course of the burglary the actor is armed with a weapon or inflicts bodily harm upon a resident. All other burglaries are graded as 3rd degree felony.

A burglary is different from a robbery because a robbery requires "force" or "threat of force" against a person whereas burglary could involve a vacant building or home.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reports that a Scranton man has been charged with burglary in connection with stealing sinks, refrigerators, and various appliances in order to sell the items to scrap metal companies. The burglaries took place in the Hills section of Scranton.
